FIRED up Buckie Thistle took another massive step closer to the Highland League title with a 5-2 win over Fraserburgh at a blustery Bellslea on Wednesday night.
The Jags overcame the shock of falling behind to a wind-assisted Michael Rae rocket after just 14 minutes to hit back with two Chris Angus goals before the break, the first a neat finish three minutes after the Broch opener after a sublime pass by striker partner John McLeod, the second a great run and finish seven minutes before the break, with the ball going in off a post, after the other partner in the free-scoring threesome, Sam Urquhart, had started the move.
Leading 2-1 at the break, and with the wind behind them in the second half, Buckie stepped up the pace although they survived a scare when Gary Harris cracked a terrific left foot effort against the crossbar in the 58th minute.
They made it 3-1 on 65 minutes when a terrific long pass by John Maitland allowed McLeod to get in behind the defence and he cooly lobbed goalkeeper Peter Tait.
With 18 minutes remaining Buckie were awarded a free kick 28 yards from goal and Lewis Mackinnon curled the ball over the defensive wall and into the net.
Within two minutes Fraserburgh gave themselves a glimmer of hope when theh were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and captain Ryan Christie neatly side-footed a strong shot into the corner of the net.
Buckie sealed the points when Angus was put clear on Tait but the keeper saved well at his feet but the ball broke to McLeod and he smashed home a great shot from 12 yards.
