300 Up For Donnie Munro
Prior to the League game against Keith the Jags talented veteran midfielder Donnie Munro was presented with a silver plate to mark his 300th appearance for the club which he made in the match up at Wick Academy last month. This was the latest landmark in a glittering career with Thistle and this career will be further marked with a testimonial year with a number of events in 2015 including a Testimonial Match next summer. Born in the USA, Donnie previously played for Huntly and Fochabers before signing for Thistle in the summer of 2004. However, in season 2002-03 he made a few appearances in the Aberdeenshire League side standing out in the title clincher against Huntly.
Donnie made his Jags debut on 2nd August 2003 and netted in the 3-1 home win over Fort William in the Highland League, the first of 64 goals in 301 appearances so far. He has picked up a number of ‘gongs’ with the club being in the starting line ups for the Jags teams that won the Scottish Qualifying Cup (North) in 2003, the Aberdeenshire Cup in 2005, clinched the Highland League title in 2011 and won the Highland League Cup in 2012.
Donnie also appeared at Wick on that famous May Day in 2010 when Thistle won the League for the first time in 52 years when he came on as a substitute. However, he was not involved in the 2007 double trophy success in the Aberdeenshire Cup and Aberdeenshire Shield as he was with Peterhead that season returning to Thistle in the summer of 2008. In his second ‘debut’ he netted a brace in a 6-2 home league triumph over Wick Academy.
Congratulations to Donnie on his latest milestone and hopefully more will follow…
