Super Start For The Under-20’s

The Jags Aberdeenshire League side made an excellent start to their campaign by romping to a 4-0 victory over Banks O’ Dee at Spain Park, sweet revenge for the dusting meted out by the junior side earlier this year in last season’s clash at Victoria Park. In a fine performance Thistle struck twice in each half and it was a joy night for Kyle Gauld in particular as he bagged a brace of goals. His first came when a corner broke into his path and he fired the ball home but his second was right out of the top drawer, Shaun Carrol, in his first game this season of any sort after having his appendix removed, fed the ball through to young Kyle who promptly smashed a 25-yard drive into the net. The other goals were bagged by Stuart Hodge and Mike Wood. The former was set up by Elliott McDonald and he knocked it home whilst Liam Cheyne set up the latter for his goal but it was fortunate as his effort was scooped into the net by the keeper. Thistle had other chances as well most notably one from Scott Adams that was cleared off the line so the victory was thoroughly merited with the Jags on top throughout. Mention must also be made of keeper Andy Burr, regular keeper for Bridge of Don Thistle, who filled the breach admirably, he was commanding and did what was necessary with aplomb.

The Jags side was – A Burr, J Cheyne, L Cheyne, N Davidson, G Stewart, D Copeland, S Carrol, K Gauld, E McDonald and H Noble Subs (all used) – S Adams, M Wood and M Steer.
