Jags Held At Cove In Thriller
Dec 22nd was not an ideal date for any game but in their latest Aberdeenshire League game the Jags were involved in a real ding-dong affair with their Cove counterparts at Allan Park. In the end Thistle should have emerged triumphant but they let a 3-1 lead slip and then, at the death, missed a great chance to win the game. Once again the depth of talent at the Jags disposal was obvious with Drew Copeland and Jay Cheyne the stand out players on the night. In an even first half it was the home side who took the lead but the Jags battled back superbly and equalised on the half hour when the ball was played into the box behind Jay Cheyne but the midfielder turned in an instant and fired the ball into the corner of the net. This perked Thistle up no end and they took the lead five minutes before half-time and it was a corker as Chris Angus weaved his way past three players before slotting a great pass through to Scott Adams who coolly slid the ball past the advancing keeper.

The Jags assumed control in the second half and this brought due reward when they added a third and it was another fine effort in the 70th minute. Drew Copeland was the instigator as he sent a fine pass through to the talented teenager Robert Scott who had little time to react but he showed great composure and slid the ball home. That should have been that and there seemed little way back for Rangers but the Thistle lads began to tire and Cove sniffed a chance. They upped the ante and secured two goals without reply to snatch a point. Even then the Jags should have won it as in the final minute Chris Angus was clean through on goal but then contrived to pull his shot wide.
